"When I was a kid, we used to go away to this awesome place in south-west WA where you could do tree-top (tree-almost-top, really) climbing and forest walking and go swimming in the river. It was a kid's wonderland and an adult's relaxing getaway, but all I cared about was the kid's part. We kids loved to venture off into the forest and go on adventures. We'd pick our way through the tall pines, climb over mammoth fallen trees and wend our way slowly to the river. Later in life I wrote a short story set in that same landscape, a story which featured a landslide and numerous character deaths. Thankfully that WAS only fiction. In reality, we had plenty of fun and still managed to live to tell the tale(s). So that's what this song is about - childhood adventures in a vast forest, away from the adults' prying eyes. I wrote "Adventures" in 2012, along with 51 others, as part of an autobiographical "one new song a week" project."
- Trisha
"'Adventures' was probably the only time on the record that really was captured in and of its moment. In most cases, the songs were written by Trisha several years prior, and we revisited them when recording them for the record. But 'Adventures' was written and recorded by Trisha in the early weeks of 2012, and as soon as she posted it, I immediately requested it to be done in full form for the album. The song was barely birthed before being shipped off to the "Into the Red" sessions. It's a song I loved instantly, and wanted greatly to retain as much from the original cut as possible, as I didn't feel it was possible to improve much on it. A few guitars, an organ, and a flute, and the track was completed in an afternoon." - Billy
lyrics
Lyrics:
Not in trouble as long as they don’t know
Lost in rubble of nature’s inferno
Two kids wandering over land and under
We reach water and perch by the river
Not in trouble as long as they don’t know
Lost in likeness our hesitant shadow
Two kids walking, late day adventuring
Only we know where we’re venturing
Not in trouble as long as they don’t know
Lost in rubble of nature’s inferno
Sun is sinking below the tree line
Time can’t turn back but someday we’ll be fine
Not in trouble as long as they don’t know
Lost in rubble of nature’s inferno
Not in trouble as long as they don’t know
Lost in rubble of nature’s inferno
Sun is sinking below the tree line
Time can’t turn back but someday we’ll be fine

Purplene are an amazing and little-known Aussie band who I think all of you should hear. This album is full of beautiful, emotive brilliance, as are their others. Woody's A Girl
